Service
Mini-splits
Ductless heat pump heads that heat and cool a room, a floor or a whole house, one zone at a time.
A mini-split has an outdoor unit and one or more indoor heads joined by a thin line set. No ducts are needed, so the installation is smaller and the room-by-room control is simple.

Signs
When it's time to look at this.
No ducts
Older Oakland houses often have wall heaters or radiators and nothing to carry cool air.
A room that's always off
An addition, an attic room or a converted garage that the main system doesn't reach.
Ducts not worth keeping
The test shows more repair than the ducts are worth.
You want control by room
Each zone has its own setting.
Radiators or baseboard heat
Electric baseboard heats with the same power a heat pump uses in less.
Cooling for a bedroom
One head can add cooling to one room without a whole new system.
The visit
What happens at the visit.
- 01
Step 1: We look at the rooms
Where a head can go, where the outdoor unit can sit and how the line set will run.
- 02
Step 2: We check the wiring
The panel, the circuit and the distance from one to the other.
- 03
Step 3: We write the plan
Number of zones, the model of each head and where each one mounts.
- 04
Step 4: You decide
You get the plan in writing before we order anything.
Cost
What drives the cost.
We don't print prices here. These are the things that move the number, and the plan prices each one.
Zones
How many rooms, and whether they share an outdoor unit.
Line set length
The run between the indoor head and the outdoor unit.
Wall or ceiling units
And what each needs for mounting and condensate.
Electrical
A circuit for each outdoor unit, and panel room for them.
Finish
Where lines run inside, and whether a cover or a chase is wanted.
Permits
Mechanical and electrical, pulled by us.
Questions
Questions about this work
Will my panel handle a heat pump?
It depends on the house. We add up what the panel carries now and what you want to add, using a load calculation, before we choose any equipment. If the panel is full, the plan says whether a new panel or a subpanel is the smaller change.
What does the assessment cover?
We look at the panel and meter, the ducts or the places a duct would go, and each room's heating and cooling need. You get a written plan afterward. You can stop there.
How long does an install take?
A ducted system with a panel change is usually several working days, spread over the HVAC and electrical crews, plus the days the city needs for inspection. The plan gives the sequence for your house.
Do you pull the permits?
Yes. We pull the mechanical and electrical permits, schedule the inspections and tell you which days someone needs to be home.
